Some heroes of the faith are deeply flawed individuals whose actions, including David’s sins of adultery and murder, carry significant consequences. Yet, the message of hope this week lies in God’s grace, which extends even to those who repent, as David did. Come this Sunday and learn about the ultimate redemptive promise fulfilled in Jesus Christ, born from a lineage of imperfect people to save a broken world—a testament to the profound and scandalous grace of Christmas.

This Sunday we will weave together themes of unexpected inclusion, divine sovereignty, and human agency through the tales of Ruth and Rahab. Both women are Gentiles in Jesus’ lineage who defied societal norms to join God’s people. Their transformative journeys will highlight how God’s grace transcends human expectations, demonstrates sacrificial love, and shows the power of saying “yes” to God.

Our passage this week explores the messy realities of life, as illustrated in the story of Judah and Tamar. We will highlight how God works through human flaws to achieve His purposes. Our narrative underscores three key lessons: life is inherently messy, God meets us in our messes, and He can redeem those messes for His glory. Come hear how this also aligns with the gospel’s message of hope, forgiveness, and redemption through Jesus Christ.

Nothing demonstrates just how good the good news is more than Jesus’ family tree, which is included, but often overlooked, in the Christmas story. The misfits who make up Jesus’ immediate and extended family show us how amazing God’s grace is and how welcome people like us can be in God’s kingdom.
