The song up next on our summer playlist is Psalm 119: A Song of Direction. This is the longest Psalm, but we will not be examining all 176 verses! Instead, this Sunday we will look specifically at verses 33-40 for how they reflect the whole psalm, and how they can direct our hearts to a deeper love for God’s Word and his ways.

This week we’ll be continuing in John chapter four with the short encounter Jesus has with a nobleman, directly following his time in Samaria (4:43-54). The interaction is brief, but it powerfully challenges our willingness to take Jesus at his Word.

This was a formative time in the life of Israel, and the picture of exile is one that carries through all of Scripture. This week we will pause our current study to reflect on what it means to live as a Christ-following foreigner in this messy modern world.

In a summer where we are studying the parables of Jesus, we have briefly pressed pause to glimpse a couple of key conversations from the book of John. Jesus interacts with people throughout his ministry in a way that causes them to evaluate belief and action. Similar to one of his parables, these conversations contain powerful imagery that should equally challenge our response today. Join us this Sunday for The “Parable” of the Samaritan Woman as we study this theological exchange about living water.

This week we’ll take a look at John 3 and the “Parable” of the Pharisee. It’s not a story Jesus told, but rather a conversation he had with a Pharisee named Nicodemus. As we study Nicodemus’s story, we might find that we share some similarities with this man who sought Jesus at night.

These past few weeks in Genesis have brought to light some of the harsh realities of living in a broken world. Even in the difficulty, though, we have seen glimpses and foreshadows of the gospel. This week, we will glance forward from Genesis to Jesus in John 11 to be reminded of the hope we have and how not to lose perspective when we walk through difficult situations.

This Sunday we will look at a variety of Scriptures that, when studied together, remind us of our privileged, but often neglected, invitation into relationship and deeper communion with Christ.

It’s the Thanksgiving season and there is much to be grateful for. It’s also possible that there is much to grieve or wrestle with too. This Sunday we’ll look at the gospel account of Jesus healing the lepers in Luke 17:11-19 and discuss the realities of living in a broken world, the hope we have in Jesus and the possibility of thanksgiving in all seasons.
