This week we will be studying Psalm 62, in which David speaks of his soul finding rest in God. God gives David the gift of Sabbath and he offers that to us today, too. But what did that truly mean for David, and what do we need to do to realize and experience that gift in our lives? We’ll explore true rest that only our gracious God can provide.

God, who is patient with us, asks us to be patient with him. God invites us to learn to wait on him and to rejoice in the depths of his unfailing love and his unfailing promises. Of course, that’s easier said than done. As one famous song says, “The waiting is the hardest part.” It may, however, be in the hardness of waiting—of striving and learning to be patient—that God does some of his best work in us. This week will be part one of a two part mini Psalms series. Before we dive into the requested Psalm 126 on Aug 4, we will reflect this week on Psalm 137. Both Psalms contrast each other. This week – Psalm 137 captures a profound yearning for home and a heartfelt cry for redemption & deliverance. We will reflect on the call for justice and mercy, seeking to align ourselves with God’s kingdom in our own lives. On Aug 4, we will learn from Psalm 126 and study more about celebrating restoration through the Lord and a joy that only comes from Him.

We will dig deeper into the known line: “Be still and know that I am God.” And discover this Psalm’s three sections: nature, nations, and people, while reflecting on God’s sovereignty over each. You will come to seek and enjoy regular reflection and scripture study to find refuge in God amid life’s uncertainties once hearing this sermon.
